The Institute for Medical Humanities is currently seeking a Communications Intern.

Are you a Durham University student with an interest in marketing and communications?

If so, the position of IMH Communications Intern could be for you.

In this exciting role, you'll be working alongside our friendly and supportive team to promote IMH events and activities, engaging both public and academic audiences through a variety of tools and platforms.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Creating content and templates for various communication methods, such as emails and social media posts
  • Seeking news stories and engagement opportunities
  • Developing and maintaining communication tools, which may include social media accounts and webpages associated with IMH

As this is an internship opportunity, the role will also include training opportunities in research communication, graphic design and web development.

Further details:

The position is for 5-7 hours per week. Ideally, the Communications Intern will work on campus during term time. You will also need to work during vacation periods outside of term time. The job can be done remotely, so there is no requirement to be on campus outside term time.

Respecting the varying demands of your studies and the event calendar, the precise allocation of hours can be averaged out in discussion with the Senior Digital and Communications Manager (for example, you may work a little more in one week in order to work less a subsequent week, or vice versa).

Please note the role is open to Durham University students only. The post holder must be enrolled on a degree course for the 2025-26 academic year.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss the role further, please contact Victoria Patton (Senior Digital and Communications Manager).

The deadline for applications is 11 November 2025, although the window may close earlier if a large number of applications are received.
