Dr Sayed Kazmi

Visiting Associate in the Department of Psychology

Biography

Sayed is a specialist in user interface design (UID), artificial intelligence (AI), interactive systems and electronic games and game-based technologies such as augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR).

Having previously held the titles of Honorary Visiting Senior Research Fellow, Director of Studies for Sustainable Computing Technologies and leading the area of game design at the University of Bradford. He has been responsible for leading the design, development and delivery of highly innovative collaborative research and taught provision (including both UG/PG courses and related interventions such as founding the Dr. Peter Molyneux OBE award for creative excellence) in these areas over a 14-year period.

He is also the founder and director of Ascentys Ltd, a socially responsible serious games research and development company. Working closely with a range of NHS organisations, universities and businesses focussed on delivering highly innovative digital solutions that are designed to literally change the game for mental health.

Being privileged to be working alongside Colin Lever and James Dachtler, he has provided technical consultancy on an Alzheimer’s Research UK funded grant based around using a game as a protagonist tool for detecting early stage dementia.

He is also currently leading development of a range of game-based mechanisms for early diagnostics and rehabilitation for a range of mental illnesses including dementia, childhood depression and psychosis, that each manifest themselves as his core research interests.
