The Botanic Garden Fun Day has now become an annual event and will take place on Bank Holiday Monday 26 May, from 10.30am-4pm.
This family-friendly, Fun Day offers loads of free activities, all in the beautiful surroundings of the Botanic Garden. Visitors are invited to explore the Garden and enjoy face-painting and craft activities throughout the day, as well as learning about the plants and animals that live there.
To create a lively summer atmosphere, there will be live music from local musicians Pittington Brass Band, who will be performing on the lawn.
Visitors can join in with demonstrations of flower arranging from local florist, Sue Elsdon or watch dramatic displays of Samurai swordsmanship in the Japanese Cherry circle from Colin Young.
By following the various art and nature trails around the Garden and chatting to our staff, visitors can also learn about local eco-systems.
The ‘Friends of the Garden’ will be holding their ever popular Plant Sale, along with the Teesside branch of the British Cactus and Succulent Society who will be selling cacti and succulents. Members of the societies and representatives from conservation charity Plant Heritage, will available to answer queries and offer advice on all manner of gardening issues.
Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic and set up for the day, or simply relax and take in the atmosphere with light refreshments for the Café.
Normal admission charges apply but all activities are free of charge, £5 adults, £4.50 Concessions. Children (16 and under) gain free entry. Free parking is available in the Visitor Centre car cark and the overspill car park at the adjacent Maths & Computer Sciences building.
