Natural Sciences Freshers - Choosing your modules - Step 2
The second step is to decide what options you would like to give yourself at the end of the first year.
Would you like to keep open the possibility of a four year degree ? If so, you should look at our four year (M.Sci.) degrees in Natural Sciences. You do not need to have applied for the M.Sci., you can switch between the M.Sci. and B.Sc. in either direction when you arrive in Durham. However, the M.Sci. is only available in certain subjects. You can also switch to the M.Sci. at the end of the first or second year, provided you have taken the appropriate modules.
Do you want to be able to progress to second year level in certain subjects in a B.Sc. degree ? You need to make sure you take the appropriate modules in each subject. Look under the Year 1 entries in the Requirements for Progression at the bottom of each of the pages listing the modules for each subject (click on the the subjects in the right column to get to those pages).
Would you like to keep open the possibility of a B.Sc. Joint Honours in two subjects within Natural Sciences ? If so, you first need to check that such a B.Sc. Joint Honours degree exists and follow the link to the Joint-Honours page. Which will tell you the appropriate modules that you need to take in each subject. Also look under the Year 1 entries in the Requirements for Progression at the bottom of each of the pages listing the modules for each subject (the subjects are listed in the right column).
If it is an M.Sci. Joint Honours degree, you should check that the M.Sci. JH degree exists.
Would you like to keep open the possibility of a transfer out of Natural Sciences into a Single Honours degree at the end of the first year ? If so, then you will have to take particular modules.
