International students

The Department of Music is keen to attract the very best students from all across the world. We work closely with Colleges and Support Services to ensure that all of our students are supported throughout the admissions process and receive a warm welcome upon their arrival in Durham. We understand the challenges international students face when living and studying overseas for the first time and our staff are dedicated to ensuring students settle in quickly and start thriving in our friendly and vibrant community.

All undergraduate applications need to be made through a centralised UK service called UCAS. This service allows students to apply to up to 5 different UK universities or courses with just one online application form. The UCAS form requires applicants to supply personal contact information, details of previous and current qualifications, a personal statement, and a reference from a teacher or tutor.

The UCAS website provides a lot of guidance on completing the application form but if you do have any problems or questions please don't hesitate to contact the International Office or visit the Admissions Office website.

Durham University also has representatives in many countries so students can receive help with the application process, visas & immigration, and booking travel. To find out if we have a representative where you are, please visit the country specific webpage.

We are happy to consider applicants with international qualifications but students are advised that we always need to ensure that they meet our prerequisite requirements with regards to music theory, practical ability, and English language proficiency. Information on qualification equivalences can be found on the International Office website.

The Department of Music at Durham has one of the highest student satisfaction scores amongst Music departments in the UK, and we are highly rated for our graduate employability.
