Musicon Call for Scores

(12 September 2019)

Musicon is Durham University’s professional concert series, now in its 50th year. For our anniversary season, we are asking UK-based composers to submit works to be considered for three of our concerts. Works can have have been performed previously but must have been written in the past ten years. Representatives from Musicon will, in collaboration with members of the ensemble concerned, choose one piece to be performed in each concert.

Details of the instrumentations, deadlines, and concert times are as follows:

a) Ives Ensemble [fl, cl, pno, vln, vla, vc] – your piece should be for a minimum of three of these.
Deadline for submissions: 15th September 2019
Concert date: 26th October 2019 (19.30)

b) EXAUDI [S, M, A, T, T, B] - your piece should be for a minimum of three of these.
Deadline for submissions: 1st December 2019
Concert date: 4th February 2020 (19.30)

c) Alpaca Ensemble [cl, tbn, pro, perc, vln, vc] - your piece should be for a minimum of three of these.
Deadline for submissions: 1st December 2019
Concert date: 19th February 2020 (19.30)

Please ensure that your submissions meet the following terms:

1. Composers may submit no more than one piece for each of the ensembles (your submissions can be sent in the same email or separately).
2. Please do not include your name on the scores (pieces that can be identified by the composer’s name will not be considered).
3. The body of your email should include the title, duration, and instrumentation of your work.
4. Maximum duration for each piece: 12 minutes.
5. Due to the limitations of the venues, works with electronics are unfortunately not accepted.
6. There is no participation fee.
7. There is a limited budget to cover domestic transport and one night’s accommodation in Durham.
