Durham University

Welcome to Lumiere Durham

Get Involved

“Volunteering at Lumiere will allow you to gain and practice transferable skills that are useful in future careers and much desired by recruiters. However, more importantly, volunteering at Lumiere is just really fun. You get to see what goes on behind the scenes of a major light festival.”

Leon Xiao, Lumiere Festival Maker 2017

To make Lumiere the best possible experience requires hundreds of friendly and enthusiastic volunteer Festival Makers. At the last Lumiere in 2017, over 300 volunteers helped out; and this year it could be even more.

Could you be a Lumiere Festival Maker? Leon Xiao, a Law student from Beijing, was a Festival Maker last time, in 2017, and has already signed up for this year.

Keys of Light

Keys of Light is an interactive light installation by Dutch artist Mr.Beam. Lumiere producers Artichoke are inviting pianists to apply for ten-minute playing slots on the grand piano. Each note played will trigger an animation onto the front of Rushford Court, which from summer 2019 will be home to our own John Snow College.

If you would like to take part, send your contact information and what pieces you’d like to play to
