Durham Law School's Thom Brooks, a professor of law and government, was invited to speak on a Brexit roundtable organised by the Fabian Society in partnership with the City of London Corporation. Other speakers included Sir Keir Starmer QC MP and Seema Malhotra MP. The event was a fringe meeting at the Labour Party's annual conference in Brighton and discussants spoke on the theme of "Brexit Britain: Challenges and opportunities for the City". Brooks, the Dean of Durham Law School, said that Starmer's call for a Brexit appealing to all parts of Britain was felt acutely and not least in the City. "While the clock ticks towards March 2019, there remains an enormous amount of work to be done - and for which academic and practicing lawyers alike can provide crucial insight and leadership too often missed in the heat of political debates," said Brooks.
