Durham University is a globally outstanding centre of teaching and research excellence, a collegiate community of extraordinary people, a unique and historic setting – a university like no other.

Located in the beautiful and historic City of Durham, we are one of the oldest universities in the UK, yet have a modern and forward-thinking mindset.

We are ranked 86th in the QS World University Rankings 2021 and 4th in the UK in The Guardian Good University Guide 2021. Our graduates achieve great things: we are ranked in the world’s top 40 universities for employer reputation.

Our teaching is research-informed and led by dedicated academics, many of whom are world-leading experts in their field.

Durham is a collegiate university, which means your student experience will be distinctive and based in one of our 17 college communities. Our students say that colleges are one of the best aspects of student life at Durham, which is one of the UK’s safest and greenest cities.

Durham is among the most international universities anywhere in the world – our staff and students come from over 130 countries, creating an outward-looking, globally-minded and inclusive community.

We have proud links with India, including through energy, environmental and biosciences research, extensive business networks and a thriving alumni group based in Mumbai. India has been a lifelong passion for me personally, working with colleagues on issues around governance and empowerment in eastern India.

So, we would love you to join us. If you are looking for excellent teaching in outstanding facilities combined with a unique college experience, then look no further than Durham University. You are guaranteed a warm welcome.
