Institute of Medieval and Early Modern Studies (IMEMS)

Research Projects

IMEMS exists first and foremost to facilitate and support Durham's academic research into medieval and early modern fields of study. If you are planning research in these areas or if you are working on a bid for funding in any aspect of medieval and early modern studies please contact us to see how we can help.

We focus in particular on interdisciplinary projects at all stages of development, actively supporting co-operation between members of various different departments and faculties across the University. We offer financial assistance for research catalyst-meetings, project-development, conferences and colloquia, supporting in particular projects leading to clearly defined outputs such as journal-articles, books, essays, interim papers and grant-applications. We also support a number of major research projects and have our own publications series.

Our regular seminar series brings distinguished speakers to Durham, providing a forum for the presentation and discussion of research. Additional lectures, conferences and colloquia, are set up from year to year to support particular initiatives. This includes an annual postgraduate conference in Durham. IMEMS also supports Durham scholars who speak at major international conferences.
