E.D. Hunt is the author of Holy Land pilgrimage in the later Roman Empire (1982, repr. 1984, 1998) and of three chapters in the new Cambridge Ancient History (vol. 13, "The Late Empire"). He has also co-edited (with J.W. Drijvers) a collection of papers on the fourth-century Roman historian Ammianus Marcellinus (1999). He has published many papers on early Christian pilgrimage, church and state in the late Roman empire, and on Ammianus Marcellinus. He is currently working on a book on church and state in the fourth century AD. Dr Hunt retired from his post as Senior Lecturer in 2007, but remains closely involved with the Department.
