Workshop: Teaching with Special Collections

6th November 2019, 12:00 to 13:00, World Heritage Visitor Centre 7 Owengate Durham, Various

The organizers (Danielle Westerhof, Rare Books Librarian and Marc Schachter, MLAC) would like to invite colleagues interested in using medieval and early modern special collections materials in the classroom to a scoping meeting.

The meeting has several purpose: to gauge interest in establishing ongoing activities around rare book and manuscript pedagogy; to consider what those activities might be (possibilities include workshops with staff already making use of Palace Green in their teaching, practicums with colleagues in the library, “master classes” with extramural experts); and to begin to consider what sorts of resources might facilitate using manuscripts and rare books in the classroom (e.g., teaching aids, book lists, ways to archive past projects, digital platforms for virtual exhibitions, eventually finding a way to establish dedicated exhibition space for student projects).
