History of the Book Workshop: 'Hoccleve Manuscripts'
Led by Professor Linne Mooney
Spaces are limited to 10 people on this workshop so please book quickly to avoid disappointment.
In the workshop on 18 October, Professor Mooney will take students through the process of identifying a late medieval English professional hand, principally using Hoccleve as her example and showing what characteristics of his handwriting help us to identify him even when he is writing in different registers.
The Durham holograph will be a starting point, but she will show other illustrations of his hand, including those covered in her lecture the night before. She'll then lead students through an exercise in which they try identifying a scribe's hand from many samples of his work.
