Libraries: Work in Progress Seminar

20th June 2017, 12:00 to 13:30, IAS Seminar Room, Palace Green, Dr Elizabeth Briggs and Professor John O'Brien

We have now reached capacity for this event therefore booking is no longer available.

In this, the second of our lunchtime Work in Progress events, Dr Elizabeth Biggs and Professor John O’Brien will speak about their respective research on libraries. Their presentations will be followed by questions and general discussion.

Lunch will be provided but please note that space is limited and so places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dr Elizabeth Biggs is the Zeno Karl Schindler Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellow working on Durham Priory Library during the middle years of the Reformation (c. 1539-79). Her work involves looking at how the people of the Priory went from monks to canons and changed their library accordingly. Her presentation will focus on her project and work so far.

Prof. John O’Brien is Head of French in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures. His topic is ‘A French Book, an English Collector and a National Trust Library’. Using a specific example, this talk will seek to explore the richness of some of our national holdings and highlight their European dimension.
