St Erkenwald Hears a Heathen: Narrating a Goste Lyfe

8th November 2016, 18:00, Durham World Heritage Site Visitor Centre, Michael Baker, Department of English

This event is free to attend and open to all. The seminar will begin at 6pm, with tea and biscuits from 5.40pm.

Abstract: The Middle English tale of St Erkenwald offers, in a co-starring role, the reanimated corpse of a heathen judge, who argues a last legal case: the injustice of having missed out on the salvation of his soul. But who, and how, is this goste speaking? This talk explores the narrative focalization of the unnamed undead.
