Conference Seminar Documentation 2

An interdisciplinary conference on the early modern period is well established at Durham, first as a biennial conference on The Seventeenth-Century, and more recently as a broader Early Modern event.

The 2019 Durham Early Modern Studies Conference aims to build on this tradition, establishing an annual conference which will offer a broad and inclusive interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of the period c.1450 to c.1800.

We are delighted to confirm the following plenary speakers

  • Professor Joshua Scodel (University of Chicago)

  • Professor Alexandra Walsham (University of Cambridge)

  • Professor Valerie Worth (University of Oxford)

Accommodation

Durham City has a range of private hotel and B&B accommodation and Newcastle is a major centre, which can be reached in just 15 minutes by train from central Durham. Delegates can choose to arrange their own accommodation, or they may wish to book one a pre-reserved room in conference accommodation when they register.

Travel

Durham can be reached in under 3 hours from London by train. Newcastle Airport, which is within very easy striking distance of the City by taxi or by metro + train, offers regular flights to a number of major hubs. Edinburgh, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester are other major UK cities with direct rail links to Durham.
