Secrets of the Stave Churches:The Archaeology of Sacred Space and the Economy of Salvation in the High Middle Ages

A collaborative workshop led by: Professor Svein Gullbekk (University of Oslo), Dr Alf Tore Hommedal (University of Bergen), Dr Giles E. M. Gasper (Durham University).

The workshop will explore research from the Norwegian Research Council funded project:

Religion and Money: the Economy of Salvation in the Middle Ages, from stave church architecture, archaeology and liturgical space; coin finds in churches from Norway, Sweden and Denmark; Norwegian nuns and nunneries; and images of coin and money in 12th and 13th religious writing.
