A new approach to flood hazard and resilience for the Kosi River, Bihar

(31 March 2011)

Dr Alex Densmore is currently in India working with the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur on developing a better understanding of the Kosi River flood disaster of 2008.

They organised a workshop, 'River dynamics and flood hazard assessment with special reference to the Kosi River', that brought together natural and social scientists, engineers, river managers, NGO and government officials to discuss what can be done to build flood-resilient communities in order to prevent future flood disasters.  The workshop received media coverage from The Times of India and the Hindustan Times.  Alex also talks about the 2008 Bihar Flood and workshop in more detail on IHRR’s blog.
