Saudi Arabia increases security along Yemen border
(2 April 2015)
Security measures have increased along the border between Saudi Arabia and Yemen, as Saudi Arabia intensifies military activities directed at the Houthi rebels in Yemen. Saudi Arabia increased security at oil installations and grounded flights at seven airports near the Yemeni border, before commencing airstrikes targeting Houthi air defenses and military bases.
According to a statement from Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, a meeting of security chiefs to evaluate “developments in light of the military operations” in Yemen and “security measures needed to face them” resulted in the “strengthening of all security measures along the kingdom's borders and at all public, oil and industrial facilities.”
Saudi Arabia is also participating in airstrikes directed at the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group as part of the US-led coalition.
