WELCOME EVENT: Research Postgraduate Students

21st October 2008, 19:00 to 21:00, The Penthouse Suite, Collingwood College

The Institute of Advanced Study and its Research Postgraduate Group warmly invite all research postgraduates to a welcome event, to be held on Tuesday, 21st October. from 7.00 to 9.00pm, in the Penthouse Suite, Collingwood College.

The IAS is a prestigious, ideas-based Institute, which brings together some of the world’s finest researchers from every discipline to examine themes of major intellectual, scientific, political and practical significance; it stands for new thinking through inter-disciplinary dialogue across all disciplines. Each year's research follows a different theme and the theme for 2008-9 is being "Being Human".

Working within the IAS, the Research Postgraduate Group meets regularly (at least twice a term), to hear papers from IAS fellows or from fellow research postgraduates, and to engage in discussions about topics of an interdisciplinary nature and/or the challenges and rewards of engaging in interdisciplinary research. The group is an excellent opportunity to engage with the leading edge research of the IAS, and to network constructively with other research postgraduates approaching similar ideas from different disciplinary angles. The group also receives invitations to private Fellows' seminars within the IAS, as well as advance notive of IAS lectures and future activities.

The group is now looking for new members from the research postgraduate community (from all faculties). The welcome event on 21st October will give you the flavour of the current group's activities and allow you to meet other postgraduates interested in the theme of "Being Human." The event will consist of a drinks reception, a brief introduction to the IAS and the group, and an opportunity to chat informally with members of the group and editors of the Kaleidoscope Journal.

If you wish to attend this event please email the IAS Administrator, Catherine Paine (

If you would be interested in becoming a member of the group, you can register your interest on the day. If you are unable to make the event but would still be interested in joining, please email so that you can be added to the mailing list.
