Hatfield College

Chapel Services

THE CHAPEL is open daily for prayer.

CHORAL EVENSONG is the main college service, held on Mondays at 6.30pm in the Chapel (unless otherwise stated) which lasts about 45 minutes, and consists of readings, prayers, congregational hymns, canticles, an anthem sung by the choir, and a sermon. All members of the college community, from all faiths and none, are warmly welcome to attend any service.

HATFIELD FORUM FOR RELIGIOUS UNDERSTANDING. The purpose of the forum is to explore issues of topical interest to people - whether from a recognised faith tradition or not - who are spiritually minded. Meetings of the forum are to be characterised by the normal conventions of academic engagement, namely, courteous and respectful discourse. The faith or non-faith convictions of the speakers are not relevant to the forum: the speakers will have been invited because of their acknowledged expertise and interest in their fields, and because their subject is of interest to thoughtful people.

OTHER SPECIAL EVENTS. We welcome your support at these events.

THE ORGAN is a newly restored Harrison, originally built in 1883. Organists are welcome to practise but must first register with the Organ Scholars as an approved user. You may like to read the recently re-discovered "advice given to players of the Harrison organ at Hatfield Hall Durham, 1883".

THE CHRISTIAN UNION meets in the chapel on Tuesdays at 8.00 p.m. for Bible Study and at other times for prayers.

UNIVERSITY CONFIRMATION takes place each year. Preparation groups are held jointly with Chaplains of other colleges. Contact the Chaplain for details.

THE CHAPEL CHOIR. If you would like to audition to sing with the Chapel Choir please contact the Chaplain for further information.
