'SHAPED' is an acronym for 'Supporting Hatfielders’ Academic Progress, Employability and Development'. SHAPED is an annual series of events (lectures, workshops, colloquia, discussion groups, and so on) put on by the College to support each student's academic progress, future employability and personal development.
Integral to SHAPED is the Hatfield Award for Personal Development. Students are awarded the Hatfield Award if they attain a sufficient number of credits from a programme of activities put on by the College as part of SHAPED. The principal benefit of the Hatfield Award is for the student, and is intended to help each student to provide a clear record to prospective employers of the student's wider skills, development and involvement in University life.
SHAPED reflects Durham University’s overall Education Strategy by offering a distinctive and integrated approach to the intellectual and personal development of all members of College.
