Welcome to New Students
Message from the Master - Professor Ann MacLarnon
Welcome to Hatfield College - and congratulations on your academic success!
We are looking forward to meeting you when you come to Durham to join Hatfield College in September.
Hatfield is a modern-minded College with roots in the traditions of the past - we were founded in 1846. Above all, we are a community living and working alongside and supporting each other. Our students come from near and far, from large cities and small towns, from many different backgrounds and experiences, and are studying for degrees across the full subject spread. The diversity of our community is one of our great strengths, and we welcome and value the contributions of everyone.
Our student Common Rooms are important parts of life in the College. Do join the Junior Common Room (if you are an undergraduate) or the Middle Common Room (if you are a postgraduate). You will be contacted about this in September. The Common Rooms play an essential part in providing resources and facilities which support and enhance the quality of their members' experience of College life, as well as representing students' views in College and the broader university. The student Common Rooms are a very important, central feature of our College community. This year, thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends of College, we are initiating Hatfield Bursaries for new Home undergraduate students from lower income households, covering some costs of College life, including JCR membership.
You are welcome to contact us if you have questions via firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0191 334 2610.
Lastly, beware fake Facebook pages about Induction Week in Durham. Only follow links from documents and links in or through this website with "dur.ac.uk" in the relevant part of the address. If you are not certain that a Facebook page or web link is genuine, do contact us.
I very much look forward to welcoming you in Hatfield in September.
Professor Ann MacLarnon
Master of Hatfield College
