A few good reasons for choosing Hatfield...

1. The famous Hatfield Spirit: As the second oldest college, Hatfield's strong traditional roots and supportive community provide a real sense of belonging for all its members. Across the University, the Hatfield Spirit is legendary. Hatfielders clearly belong to Hatfield! Our sense of community and tradition is evident in our weekly formal dinners where students and staff dress in gowns and eat together in our Georgian dining hall.

2. The Hatfield Motto - 'Vel Primus Vel Cum Primis' (loosely translated as 'Be the best you can be!'). We encourage all our students to gain more than just a good degree. We want them to make the most of their time here and take every opportunity to grow: to work hard, to play hard and to contribute to student life. Our students are renowned for getting involved, achieving highly in sport, the arts and music, and giving back to the community through outreach and charity work.

3. The beautiful Hatfield location and buildings: Situated between Durham's World Heritage Site and the banks of the River Wear on one of the oldest streets in Durham (the Bailey), Hatfield boasts a distinctive location only minutes away from the city centre and other University sites. Our buildings reflect the College's development since our beginnings in 1846, offering a variety of accommodation ranging from the historic and listed, to the more modern, purpose-built.
