Durham University Strategy, 2017-2027 aims to deliver education that is challenging, enabling, research-led and transformative, taking advantage of the latest digital technologies, welcoming talented students from all backgrounds and producing critically and socially engaged global citizens and graduates capable of fulfilling their full career potential.

The new Teaching and Learning Centre will host a wide range of learning environments and technologies. There will be lecture theatres, teaching rooms, an education laboratory where new teaching and training methods can be developed, student learning zones and catering facilities.

Outside term time the Centre will allow the University to host major academic conferences which will support the wider economic impact the University makes to Durham City, County and North East England.

The floor plans for the new building, which outline the new spaces and layout for students and staff, are available here: Level 00, Level 01 and Level 02.

New pedestrian crossing on South Road

To ensure the safety of students and staff who will be crossing into the new Teaching and Learning Centre when it opens in September, critical roadworks will be taking place on South Road from 13 May for a six week period. The road closure on South Road is necessary to accommodate the relocation of the pedestrian crossing next to the Ogden Centre.

All work will take place between the hours of 7pm and 6am, during which time, pedestrian and emergency vehicle access will be maintained. An alternative route will be available for all other vehicular traffic via Elvet Hill Road, Potters Bank, and Quarryheads Lane. Please see this map for further details of the diversion. To accommodate the diversion, there will be a temporary suspension on weight limit restrictions.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
