Department of Earth Sciences

Theme Statement:

Hazards arising from geologic phenomena, such as volcanoes and active fault zones, motivate much of the research within the Earth Sciences. The Geohazards Theme at Durham connects researchers from across the spectrum of geoscience disciplines, including geochemistry, mineralogy, geophysics, volcanology, structural geology, rock mechanics, experimental and numerical modelling, and field geology. We apply our multidisciplinary expertise to answer fundamental questions regarding the nature of geohazards, the controls of their causative geological processes and the risks that they pose.
