Group Statement

The palaeoclimate research group within the Department of Earth Science uses geochemical, biological, and geological proxies to reconstruct climate change throughout geological time. All temporal scales are represented, from ultra-high resolution records of tropical cyclone activity over the last two thousand years to records of the timing and extent of global glaciations more than one billion years in the past. The palaeoclimate group’s vision is to use to clarify how the climate system responded to external and internal forcings in the past, and then use this information to predict how climate may respond in the future.
