JARR (Jurassic Analogues: Resources to Reserves)

Fossilised Burrow

JARR is funded by a NERC Oil & Gas Catalyst grant, awarded to Durham and Newcastle universities. The Catalyst scheme awards innovation funding to facilitate the take up of NERC science and expertise by the oil and gas industry and is part of a wider NERC initiative to engage with the industry. The aim of JARR is to facilitate academic-industry knowledge exchange in the definition of shale sweet spots, and clarify the multiple scale depositional, tectonic, and temporal controls on their formation. With this scope JARR aims to improve resource-to-reserve estimates for shale oil/gas plays and reduce the risk and cost of exploration.
