This page gives some general information about departmental IT support and various contact links.
General University computing questions
The University IT support is co-ordinated from a central helpdesk and initially all support requests should be logged with them - the helpdesk will triage all support requests and can help with general support issues e.g. can't connect laptop to wireless network, can I increase the size of my J: drive? When they are unable to assist they will pass the request on to the most appropriate person -which is why it is essential that you provide as much information as possible - what exactly is the problem (it's not working helps no one), your location, your machine name and IP address, or the name of any equipment you are using, as well as any steps you have already taken to try and fix the problem.
If you contact the IT Service Desk by email, using the web forms or by phone, please make it clear in your request the following information -whether your machine is on the MDS system or not, your location e.g. open plan desk 20.
New Account Requests
To access some departmental facilities requires a departmental account separate from the University system. A form is available on the door of the Kingsley Dunham Visualisation Suite, 3rd floor west wing of the building or at http://community.dur.ac.uk/earth.admin/local/forms/register/ .

Ordering new IT Equipment
In order to ensure CIS have the information needed to process orders for Desktop, Laptops, Workstations and Macs please can you attach the updated Appendix 1 (available here) to relevant requisitions, any requisitions for these devices which don’t have Appendix 1 attached will be rejected.
