Colourful Signs of Power and Status – Heraldry in Past and Present

7th May 2019, 17:45 to 18:45, Gala Theatre, Durham, Marcus Meer

The buildings and paintings of Durham’s cathedral and colleges are home to countless coats of arms, evoking the kings, princes, knights and noblemen of the past. But heraldry is still very much alive today. This lecture offers an overview of the study of heraldry, from its peculiar terminology and long history to its many practical applications throughout the centuries.

A season of events celebrating the history, art and culture of County Durham, organised in partnership by Durham County Council and the Centre for Visual Arts and Culture.
