Art, Architecture and Museums: Durham's Gothic Architecture
Durham's Gothic Architecture was, and remains today, imprinted on Durham's townscape courtesy of the cathedral, castle and a host of churches. This talk discusses the often overlooked continuation of the Gothic tradition in eighteenth- and early nineteenth- century Durham. In particular it explores architectural work from repairs through to 'improvements' done on the Castle and Cathedral, as well as the construction of the University from the 1830s onwards.
Join the first in a season of events celebrating the history, art and culture of County Durham, organised in partnership by Durham Country Council, and the Centre for Visual Arts and Culture and History Departments of Durham University.
Tickets are free but booking is recommended; please contact the Gala Theatre on 03000 266 600 or book online at www.galadurham.co.uk.
