Conferences and Events

The Centre for Visual Arts and Culture runs a number of research-related events and series throughout the year.

These include annual lectures in Religion, Theology and Visual Culture, in Environments and Visual Culture, and in Visual Culture and the Construction of Knowledge, which are related to our three areas of research focus - Constructions of Knowledge, the Sacred and Environments.

They also include:

  • Behind the Scenes at the Museum, a series of public lectures and masterclasses, in which leading figures in the museum world are invited to Durham;
  • Contemporary Art in Focus, a series of commissions of contemporary art, in collaboration with University College, Durham
  • Heritage in Focus, a series of exhibitions of hidden objects from around the North-East
  • Regular themed Visual Culture Workshops
  • A postgraduate reading group
  • An annual Visual Culture Conference

CVAC will finally support initiatives run by its members. These might include conferences, workshops and seminars that would reflect the broad themes of the Centre. To apply for CVAC funding, please click here.
