Description

Why a Durham Masters?

There are many reasons to study for a masters degree at Durham Business School. Here are just a few:

  • Career enhancement

A Durham Business School masters degree will help you gain a competitive edge in an over-crowded job market. If you are a recent graduate it will help you develop skills and knowledge directly relevant to your employers' needs. For those already in a career it will build on existing experience to help give your career a boost, or provide you with a platform for career change.

  • Academic excellence

You will be taught by world-class faculty, who possess up-to-date theoretical and practical knowledge in the key areas of business, management, economics and finance. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, 95% of the School's research was rated of International Quality and above. This positions the School 19 in a total of 90 schools within the business and management sector (based on the Grade Point Average score).

By exposing students to the frontiers of the subject and training them in relevant research skills, these degrees can be used as a successful platform from which to progress to further study at both MPhil and PhD levels. Indeed around 17% of Durham Masters graduates progress to a higher degree.

A rich and rewarding study environment. Durham Business School is part of Durham University, one of the leading academic universities in the UK.

  • Wall Street at Your Fingertips

Experience investment first hand through our bespoke stock market trading simulation. The system allows you to test your skills as a portfolio manager by investing in a plethora of securities on real data of major world markets. During the 'challenge' you will build a hypothetical portfolio trading on all available securities and instruments using real time data. The student with the best performing portfolio wins £100. The system is especially helpful for those considering a career as stock brokers or in investment banking. Find out more about the Stock-Trak competition...

You will also have the opportunity to join the Investment Club. This small, self-managed group will be given £5,000 to invest over the duration of the programme. The group will elect a chair and meet regularly, working together to maximise the investment. At the end of the year the fund will be passed, along with a report on the fund's performance, to next year's Club. This exciting and new initiative will give you the chance to put your financial skills to the test, and will be an asset on your CV.
