Covid-19 Response

Lateral Flow Testing Service Evaluation Resources

The Lateral Flow Test (LFT) is one of a number of new testing technologies for the Covid-19 virus. It has been piloted over the past few months at Durham University as well as across the UK.

The aim of the test is to identify those most at risk of spreading Covid-19 by identifying those who are infectious, but not aware of this. This will enable us to break the chains of transmission and reduce the infection rate. This is not a clinical trial; the technology, developed by the University of Oxford, has already been validated through clinical testing.

The initiative was developed by Durham University in partnership with the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC), the University of Oxford, and Public Health England (PHE). Here you can find some key resources we have produced during this service evaluation.

Service Evaluation Report

The Interim Service Evaluation Report is now available. It is a joint publication between Durham University and Public Health England:

Protocol

The protocol for the service evaluation was developed by Durham University and approved by the DHSC. It sets out the aims and key governance processes for the project.

A short film showing how Durham University students can get a Lateral Flow Test at one of our three sites, Palace Green, Maiden Castle and the Racecourse.

Participant quiz for self-administering the test

Only trained individuals can self-administer tests. We train staff and students using the resources above and ask them to take the following:

Test your Understanding - Lateral Flow Tests (Sample).

The quiz can be taken as many times as necessary. Once a participant passes the quiz, they receive an email with a link to the booking system used to book a test. The quiz only needs to be completed successfully once.

NB. This links to a sample form and should not be used for University staff and students participating in the LFT testing programme: http://tiny.cc/LFTSample

Posters (prompt sheets)

At the testing venues, posters are displayed to remind people how to take the test and to book more tests.
