FAQs for applicants and future students
I am a private candidate and may not receive a grade for my qualification. I am holding an offer at Durham. How will you decide whether I receive a place?
If you’ve been home schooled, followed a distance learning programme or have studied independently, you may not receive a grade or grades for the qualifications you have been registered for in the summer. This is likely if you don’t have a relationship with a centre. If you think this is the case for you then you need to contact us as soon as possible by completing our enquiry form at Ask us. In the section entitled ‘can’t find your answer’ please include the words ‘private candidate’ at the start of this section. You should then tell us which examinations and subject you have been entered for. At this stage this is all of the information we require and we will get back to you if we need anything else from you.
We will consider each private candidate who may not be receiving grades in the summer on an individual basis by taking account of a number of factors and range of evidence, including, for example, previous academic achievement and personal circumstances.
