Community Relations

We’re proud to be part of Durham and of the positive contribution we make to Durham City, Durham County and the wider North-East region.

Our Community Relations work supports our commitment, outlined in our University Strategy 2017-2027 to ensure Durham is a safe, respectful and inclusive place to live, work and study. Here you can find out how we nurture close links with the wider Durham community, some of the groups we are a part of and how we work together with partners to approach local issues.

Our work

Our community relations work is led by our Community Relations & Housing Unit, which includes our Community Liaison Manager and Student Community Warden team.

We want students to live well 'off-campus' during their time in Durham, focussing our energy on a learning approach that values engagement, explanation and encouragement over enforcement.

We promote positive citizenship amongst our students living or preparing to live off campus, in line with the expectation set out in the Student Pledge that all our students will be good and considerate neighbours.

Our work leans heavily towards Durham University's values of citizenship, collaboration and a commitment to excellence.
