Jennifer Kain is a PhD Researcher in the Department of History at Northumbria University. Jen is currently completing her thesis entitled "Preventing Unsound Minds from Populating the
British World: Australasian Restriction of 'Insane' Immigrants c.1850-1920." She is investigating the legislation, policy and practicalities of preventing migrants with the contemporary definitions of mental disease and disability from entering New Zealand and Australia, throughout the 'long-nineteenth century.'
