Helen Stark

Helen Stark is a Research Associate and Seminar Tutor at Newcastle University. Although her current project is concerned with the relationship between children’s literature and heritage (see research.ncl.ac.uk/heritagestories), her main research interests are in late eighteenth-century and Romantic-period literature, in particular constructions of gender and theories of national identity. The man of feeling and his role in constructing the nation was the subject of her thesis, awarded June 2013, titled ‘Men of Feeling: Masculinities and National Identities, 1761-1817.’ Stark is Editorial Assistant to the Journal for Eighteenth-Century Studies and secretary to the British Association for Romantic Studies.
