Durham University

The Centre for Nineteenth Century Studies

Guy Hinton

Guy Hinton is a PhD student in the School of History, Classics and Archaeology. After an MA at Durham University, which focused on Newcastle’s reaction to the Boer War, his current research is looking into aspects of war memorialisation in the second half of the nineteenth century – from conventional memorials to drinking fountains, memorial museums and cottages to street and pub names. His research interests include attitudes to imperialism and war, aspects of urban development and the growth in influence of the middle and working classes.
