Durham Arctic Research Centre for Training and Interdisciplinary Collaboration (DurhamARCTIC)

APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED: The deadline for applying for a 2018 DurhamARCTIC scholarship has been extended to Thursday 8 February. All DurhamARCTIC materials must be received by then, and applicants must also apply for admission to the PhD programme in the department in which they wish to pursue studies. For more information, see the web page on Applying.

DurhamARCTIC is a doctoral training centre at Durham University, funded by a grant from the Leverhulme Trust to support Interdisciplinary Understanding for a Changing Arctic (DS-2017-070). Between 2018 and 2023 DurhamARCTIC is supporting 15 doctoral students at Durham University, each of whom is pursuing a research project that contributes to and benefits from a blend of disciplinary expertise and interdisciplinary enquiry.

DurhamARCTIC students are admitted into any doctoral programme, in any of the University's three faculties: Arts & Humanities, Science, and Social Sciences & Health. In addition to providing fee waivers, a maintenance stipend at the standard Research Council UK rate, and financial support for research and conference attendance, DurhamARCTIC provides a number of opportunities for interdisciplinary education including colloquia, summer schools, and an integrated residential community for programme students. DurhamARCTIC students enrol at Durham in three cohorts of five students each, with intakes in Autumn 2018, 2019 and 2020.
