Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK

Nissan is the largest car manufacturing plant in the UK and is located in Washington, Tyne and Wear but is now linked with the city of Sunderland. It employs over 6,700 staff at the Sunderland plant. It is owned and operated by the European division of Japanese car manufacturer Nissan.

Digital, Media and Software

Combined, the digital, media and software sectors employ around 35,000 people in the region and contribute £1.167 billion to the economy. These three sectors are expected to expand by over a quarter by 2020.

Sage Group

The biggest company in North East England is accounting software giant Sage Group, with a global HQ in Newcastle. Sage software is used by 6.2 million customers in countries around the world and now has offices in California, Canada and Paris.

DigitalCity

Many digital organisations are supported by Teesside University's DigitalCity initiative which was set up to get the most out of the talents of Teesside University computing students and produce a super-cluster based on digital technologies, digital media and other creative mediums. Since 2004, it has helped 250 graduates to set up nearly as many companies, creating 389 new jobs.

Tetley Tea

Eaglescliffe is home to Tetley Tea, (TATA Global Beverages). Employing around 360 people, it is the largest teabag factory in the world. It makes 18 billion teabags per year and was shortlisted for a national 'Best Factory Award' for making huge improvements in training, developing and upskilling its workers.

Greggs

Greggs plc is the largest bakery chain in the United Kingdom. It specialises in savoury products such as pasties, sausage rolls and sandwiches, as well as sweet items including doughnuts and vanilla slices. It is headquartered in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Barbour

Barbour, makers of the iconic Barbour jacket, are based in Jarrow. Providing waterproofs to the royal family and historically associated with hunting and the countryside, the brand is now a wardrobe staple of fashionistas worldwide.
