An introduction to creative writing taught by Durham-based author Dr Fadia Faqir. It explores techniques for sparking the imagination and tapping inner creativity as well as developing skills and improving style.
Inkapture course is an introduction to creative writing. The fifteen 2-hour weekly workshops, running over two terms, concentrate on fiction, the novel and short story, and are intended for people who have an active interest in contemporary writing and are keen on developing their writing skills. You will be introduced to the craft of writing fiction through the use of the theoretical, creative and practical. The course focuses on basic narrative techniques: characterisation, description, atmosphere, point of view, allegorical language etc. You will be guided through drafting and revision and enabled to reflect on the literary practice of the writers you encounter throughout this course and on your own.
You will also take part in creative field trips to Whitworth Hall (Fiction from Nature), Palace Green (Historic Crime Fiction) and the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Arts (Fiction from Art).
Quality writing by participants is published in Inkapture e-magazine, edited by ex-students of the course.
Suitable for beginners and those who have been writing for a while. Admission is FREE and the course is open to students and non-students. REGISTRATION WILL OPEN ON 18 SEPTEMBER, 2017.
