Mr Matthew Warren, BA (Dunelm) MA (Dunelm)
Matthew Warren is a doctoral researcher in the Department of Music. Having completed an MA at Durham, his PhD is building on his experiences as a composer from a sociological standpoint. His research is around academic communities in English Universities with a particular focus on how composers and university institutional structures interact. This work covers areas such as the pathways people take to become academics and composers, teaching methods in composition and the nature of creative research in the arts. In addition to this, he looks at notational methods in relation to ethnomusicological transcription and is the recipient of a Durham Doctoral Scholarship.
