I completed my PhD on Iberian prehistoric sculpture and its European context at the University Complutense of Madrid in 2010. From 2011 to 2013 I was a Visiting Research Fellow, funded by the Spanish Government, at the University of Southampton. I worked with the Archaeological Computing Research Group developing the application of digital technologies to the study of ancient monumental sculptures, their biographies and landscape settings. In 2013-14 I worked at that same university as a Lecturer and soon after that I joined as a Research Associate the ‘Making a Mark: Imagery and process in the British and Irish Neolithic’ project, funded by the Leverhulme Trust (2014-16). From 2016 to 2018 I was Lecturer in Archaeology at Cardiff University where I further developed my interest in the prehistory of the Atlantic façade, archaeologies of mobility, biographical approaches and archaeological visualization.

Selected current/recent projects

The Lives of Prehistoric Monuments in Europe

Ongoing research on the interaction between prehistoric monuments, people and place through time. I have co-directed multidisciplinary fieldwork with students in Mirasiviene, Montoro and Piedras Blancas (UNESCO Antequera Dolmens site) (Spain) and Cruz de Cepos and Tojais (Portugal). Principal funding bodies: University of Southampton (UK), Cardiff University (UK) and Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.

Prehistoric Art: Digital Visualization, Image Making and Mobility

'Rock Art and Maritime Interaction in Atlantic Europe'. I am senior researcher in this international, multi-disciplinary project (2019-22) led by Prof Johan Ling (Gothenburg University) investigating Late Bronze Age connections across Atlantic Europe. This includes conducting a comparative analysis of Iberian warrior stelae and Scandinavian rock art. The project involves fieldwork, the creation of high-resolution 3D documentation of Iberian stelae and Scandinavian rock art, and the creation of an online library of 3D images of rock art to allow world-wide access to researchers and the public to this documentation. Principal funding body: Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences (Riksbankens jubileumsfond).

‘Making a Mark: Imagery and Process in Neolithic Britain and Ireland’. I was Research Associate at the University of Southampton as part of this project (2014-16), led by Prof Andrew Meirion Jones. I studied museum collections from across Britain and Ireland, applying digital imaging methods and microscopy to record and examine the techniques used in making motifs across a range of Neolithic media. Principal funding body: Leverhulme Trust (UK).

‘Promoting Digital Solutions to European Palaeolithic Rock and Cave Art Research’. I was co-applicant of this project (2014), which aimed to assess the utility of RTI and Multispectral Imaging to analyse superimposition, texture and topography of rock art panels, and to enhance motifs that are no longer clearly visible. We conducted new recording surveys in two UNESCO World Heritage sites (Côa Valley in Portugal and El Castillo cave in Spain). Principal funding bodies: British Academy and Leverhulme Trust (UK), The Prehistoric Society (UK).
