The exterior of the Palatine Centre, bustling with students between lessons

As well as featuring regularly in our university museums programmes and our festival programme, the art collection is on display in buildings around the University campus.

Outdoor art gallery

The outdoor gallery is currently exhibiting Beautiful Durham. As a Part of the Summer in the City Art Festival and in collaboration with nine County Durham Schools, come see a collection of artworks that answer the question “What makes Durham Beautiful?” Located in Library Square, in front of the Bill Bryson Library, this new gallery is open to everyone all the time.

Palatine Centre

The displays in the Palatine Centre include artworks that investigate differing notions of printmaking by artists. The Palatine Centre is also the location of our annual Durham University Student Art Prize exhibition. Entrance is free of charge, and you do not need to book in advance. The Palatine Centre has a café and toilet facilities, but no dedicated public car park.

The address is:

Art tours, talks and research visits of the collection are available on request and where possible. For further information, contact art.collection@durham.ac.uk.
