Departmental Research
The strength of research in Theology and Religion at Durham gives the Department a leading national and international profile. We have consistently been awarded grade 5 in the UK Research Assessment exercise and in 2008 were ranked at no. 1 among all departments of
theology and religion in the UK in two categories: (a) the highest
percentage of publications at 4* (world-leading research) and (b) the
highest Grade Point Average for these publications. Recent expansion means that there are more than twenty full-time teaching and research staff in the Department (and half a dozen others attached to the Department), whose expertise covers an unrivalled range of fields - from Biblical studies to historical, systematic and philosophical theology; from the study of religion to practical theology and the theology of ministry. We also have active links with other departments across the University, and with other theological institutions in the region, helping to maintain and enhance Durham's position as a world-class centre for research in all aspects of theology and the study of religion.
