John Loftin: Minimal Lagrangian surfaces in CH^2
An immersed minimal Lagrangian surface in the complex hyperbolic plane $CH^2$ inherits a conformal structure from the induced metric. Moreover, the components of the second fundamental form can be written in terms of a cubic differential $U$ which is holomorphic with respect to the conformal structure. The integrability condition for the conformal factor of the metric is an elliptic semilinear equation which is very similar to the Uhlenbeck's equation for minimal surfaces in $RH^3$. We discuss existence and non-uniqueness of the solutions to this equation on a compact Riemann surface $S$, the geometry of the immersion of the universal cover of $S$ in $CH^2$, and properties of an induced representation from the fundamental group $\pi_1S$ into $SU(2,1)$. This talk reflects two joint works, with Ian McIntosh, & with Zeno Huang and Marcello Lucia.
