Alec Ryrie: Protestants

7th October 2017, 11:30 to 12:30, Palace Green Library, Durham

This is a Durham Book Festival event featuring Durham University's Professor Alec Ryrie.

Protestant Christianity began with one stubborn monk. Today, it includes a billion people across the globe. On the 500th anniversary of Luther’s rebellions, this dazzling history traces the revolutionary and quarrelsome faith. Protestants tells the story of the radical men and women of this religion,
and of its restless energy that made, and continues to make, the modern world.

Alec Ryrie is Professor of the History of Christianity at Durham University. He is the author of the prize- winning Being Protestant in Reformation Britain. This event will be chaired by Margaret Masson, Durham University
