Interfaiths Forum on Fairtrade

2nd May 2012, 17:00 to 19:00, Birley Room, Hatfield College

Hatfield College will be holding an informal discussion to explore some international perspectives of fair trade. Paul Chandler (Chief Executive of Traidcraft), Ann Le Mare (Lecturer in the Department of Geography) and Professor Habib Ahmed (Professor of Islamic Law and Finance in the School of Governmental and International Affairs) will, with others, be members of a panel.

They will explore whether the idea of fair trade is principally a western phenomenon or whether it also has significance among the emerging economic powers. They will also explore fair trade from the view point of the University’s international students, and ask what the University’s Fairtrade accreditation means to the University’s international students – and what its implications are for them and the communities from which they come.

This forum is held under the auspices of Hatfield College’s Environmental Forum and the College’s Interfaiths Forum, with Greenspace, the University’s Environment and Sustainability directorate.

Refreshments will be available from 4.45pm – all welcome.
