Mental Health Training
Mental health and wellbeing issues impact many of our students and staff. Training is available to support our whole community.
Online mental health training modules have been prepared by the Counselling Service, Occupational Health and Durham Students Union.
- Staff mental health training is available on DUO on the Mental Health Training organisation. This contains core modules on mental health, specialist modules on student support approaches and policies, and modules for line managers supporting colleagues with mental health concerns. Modules specifically for PGR supervisors were prepared as part of a national project funded by the Office for Students.
- Student mental health training offers advice on managing your own wellbeing, the support available in the University, and advice on supporting and signposting your peers. This module is available to all students on DUO, in My Organisations and Training, ‘DU Student Mental Health Training’.
- Student leaders – a specialist module for students in welfare and leadership roles is also available on the DUO site and includes additional information on Creating a Healthy Environment and managing the boundaries of your role.
Live training sessions for staff are available to book via the Training Course booking system.
Courses are offered by the Counselling Service on supporting students in distress. HR offers training for individuals as staff members and managers.
Please find details of modules available below.
Training sessions for students are offered to Welfare Representatives on JCR and MCR committees by the Durham Students Union, and also by Nightline.
